Armorial plate of Madras magistrate Clement Dale (1806-1890) in the front paste-downs of each volume. Also in front paste-downs of each volume, a bookseller ticket from 'Christian Knowledge Society's Press, Madras'. Title pages of each volume with holographic inscription by Clement Dale stating 'Clement Dale, Madras 1842'. Both volumes in excellent condition with only minor scuffing at extremities and light sunning to spines. Loosely slipped into one of the volumes, a rare piece of ephemera, is a 2-sided brochure from the Madras Diocesan Committee of the Society for promoting Christian Knowledge, which on one side lists a 6-point agenda for the 'objects of the society'. The reverse side lists publications available for sale in bot Telugu and Tamil languages. A very scarce vestige of early Anglo-Indian printing. Very Good. Item #11079
