Early (?) 20th century full calf binding with spine in 5 compartments and red morocco spine label reading 'Art Of Memory' and author's name (Miles) in gilt. Center gilt ornaments in other compartments, as well as double rule pallet borders. Printing date of 1849 gilt-stamped on bottom of spine. All book edges still with original 19th century marbling. Original FFEP retaining the following inscription by the author: 'Presented to Gen. Zachary Taylor, President of The United States, With the High Regards of The Author. Liverpool, England, Nov. 21. 1849'. Both President Taylor and the author do appear to have been in Liverpool when the book was inscribed, making it plausible that this copy was given to the President of the USA at that time..
