Full page contemporary ex-libris from the Officer's Library from the Royal Artillery garrison at Shoeburyness, Essex, England. Additionally an oval stamp from the same library is on the recto of the frontispiece illustration. Containing 3 of the 4 called for monochrome illustrations. (lacking Burmese Pioneers plate). Map is present at rear of volume, with some foxing and old folds, in good condition otherwise. Frederic Mouat spent 30 years in India and after the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857 had championed the idea of placing a penal colony on the Andaman Islands, for which this book was to serve as a sort of feasibility study.
