James Cooley Fletcher (1823-1901) was an American Presbyterian minister and missionary, active in Brazil beginning in 1852. After returning to the United States in 1854, Fletcher returned numerous times to Brazil, on one occasion floating nearly 2,000 miles down the Amazon River to collect specimens for renowned Swiss-American biologist and geologist Louis Agassiz.
